What does N.Y.V. B.K.Lyn mean embossed on antique tile?
We were fossil hunting this past weekend on an island that has not had inhabitants since 1911. The homes on the island were built in the mid 1800′s. We discovered some artifacts, pottery and some tile. The tile that we discovered was embossed with N.Y.V. B.K.Lyn on the back and it was octagon in shape. The mansion on this island had a swimming pool and it’s steps were made from marble. This tile actually looks like marble but feels like ceramic. There were several pieces mostly broken ones.
Any ideas on what the embossing means and where it comes from?
I would guess it simply meant the names of the family living there. Often rich families had their initials embossed on personal effects when these items were made FOR them.
