What’s the difference between silver and sterling silver?
I’ve been looking at charms for a bracelet I have and some charms say sterling silver and some others just say silver. Is there a difference?
Real silver is basically pure silver (like 99.9) and worth more. But it is soft and can not be used to make much.
Sterling silver is mixed with 7-8% copper to make it hard. So it would be a mix of 92% pure silver and 8% copper. But this makes it worth less since it is not pure silver. But now since it has copper in it you can make tea pots, cups, forks, etc. If you tried to make a fork out of pure silver it would bend on you.
