Why do prisms only cycle through the visible spectrum?
When i look at a raindrop or scrap of glass, it runs through the spectrum from red to violet or the other way, then it repeats. However, i can’t see all wavelengths of light to which the medium is transparent. Therefore, why is there not a gap during which only light of a wavelength which the human eye cannot perceive is being transmitted?
Simple prism creates only one spectrum without repeating.
If you see multiple spectra they are probably created by multiple prisms (not so simple shape of a raindrop with two angles opposing each other or a complex shape of a scrap of glass) or they can be created by single prism with multiple light sources (multiple light “rays” going through holes).
Appearance of a gap depends on how much the multiple spectra projection overlaps.
