What are the steps of casting a simple concrete block?
I need to do research for my building construction class on the steps of casting a concrete block. I know the basics:
1- Mixing water, cement, coarse and fine aggregate
2- Do a slump test
3- putting the mixture into a mold
4- let it harden
5- put it in water for some days
6- Then the compressive strength test
But the thing is I’m lacking detail and the technical information. I was wondering if anyone knows a place with the procedure above but in more detail. Thank you
It needs to be kept moist while it hardens (called curing). And before you let it harden, it must be “finished”, using a trowel to smooth the surface or some material to roughen it, depending what you need.
Keeping it moist allows it to cure properly and helps reduce cracks from shrinkage as the cement chemically absorbs the water molecules.
Check out the wikipedia page for concrete, it is pretty informative. Often the process has additional steps, depending on what the concrete is to be used for.
