Glass Fused Jewelry Kiln Review

It is now possible to fuse glass in your microwave thanks to an ingenious Microwave kiln.

Made from space age ceramic fibre similar to the protective surface on the space shuttle these kilns are not to be considered a toy and are in fact an economic and easy way to get acquainted with glass fusing.

There are many glass fusing ideas such as earrings, necklaces, broaches and more. This is one of the simplest and easy ways to fuse glass we have ever seen. A Glass Fusing Jewerly kit is available containing full instructions and everything you need to learn a craft that young adults and grown-ups can enjoy for a lifetime.

This is an opportunity to create gorgeous kiln-fired glass jewellery and embellishments in minutes using your microwave! You can fire projects up to 75mm in diameter in as little as 3 minutes. The kiln is lightweight and compact for portability and easy storage.

The manufacturer recommends a microwave with the rating 800-1200 watts and have a metal interior. We tried the kiln in a couple of microwaves and the results varied but we would recommend that if you are planning to create glass fused jewelry on a production basis to set aside a microwave oven exclusively for this purpose.

Features:

* Requires only 3 minutes to effectively fuse glass.

* Easy and safe to use.

* The kiln’s chamber is 8cm diameter

* Has a maximum temperature rating of 1090 degrees Celcius

* weighs less than 1kg

The kiln can be purchased as a unit but we recommend the complete kit as it will provide everything you need to make glass fused jewelry. Starting off this way ensures that glass fusing starts and continues as a creative, fun and easy hobby or start up business .

The kit is excellent value in that the tools, instruction and a starter amount of 90 COE glass are all included. It is worth repeating, that although this kiln is very inexpensive, it is not a toy that can be given to young children to play with but represents a serious cutting edge solution to fusing glass to make beautiful pieces of jewellery.

Simply place the kiln in your microwave and watch the transformation of your simple cut glass shapes to pieces of jewellery. It is actually that easy.

Kit includes:

* Fuseworks ™ Microwave Kiln

* Seven 50x50mm pieces of fusible glass in assorted colours

* Dichroic fusible glass in assorted colours and sizes

* Confetti glass in assorted colours 28gm

* Assorted millefiori glass in various colours

* 2 pieces Kiln Paper 14cm

* Hot Mitts Safety Gloves

* 4 Necklace bails-2 sizes, gold and silver tone

* Complete set of instructions

Glass Fusing Jewerly Kit can be purchased here.

The Instructions include advice on glass cutting and firing techniques plus a section on troubleshooting if things go wrong as they can do in the best of regulated projects.

The kit includes a log for you to record your firing times so you can remember what works best with your microwave. Trial and error is the best way for improving your results.

Many have used this kiln as a low cost start up to the later acquisition of a large brick kiln for volume production with glass slumping molds. This kit allows you to see if you like the hobby before investing thousands of dollars in a production kiln. Makes sense!
