I would like to start a shop selling pottery, art glass but not sure where to get supplies, ideas please?
A lot of people seem to sell branded goods – eg M&S – on ebay so wonder where they get the stock to enable them to then re-sell at a reasonable profit.
There’s a number of ways you could approach this.
The first is to stock work by local potters and glassmakers. Most of these craftspeople are very talented at creating their work but not so good at promoting it. You’d sell it for a commission. This is a way of keeping your outlay down. You only pay the artist for their work after you’ve received the money from your customer. Keep your commission down to no higher than 35%, demonstrate to the artists that you’re actively promoting their work and pay them promptly when you make a sale and you’ll have a never-ending source of stock and happy suppliers.
If you want to sell mass-produced items, visit you local cash and carry outlets. Most of them sell glassware and pottery. This way, you do have an initial outlay but everything you make on your sales you keep, after you’ve deducted the cost of the stock. You may be able to sell this type of work at lower prices than the work by local artists. It depends where you are thinking of setting up and what type of customer you want to attract.
Another way to acquire mass produced stock is by visiting trade shows such as Spring Fair, which is held at the NEC. (They also hold another one called Autumn Fair.)
Good luck!

A Hundred Million Suns $5.47 The Snow Patrol we meet on A Hundred Million Suns is a band facing the same dilemma that Coldplay met on 2008’s Viva la Vida; having conquered the world with a rousing, melancholy brand of MOR indie, where now? On the surface, A Hundred Million Suns seems to suggest, nothing especially new: producer Jacknife Lee, who first worked with the band on 2003′s Final Straw and went on to work with t… |

It’s a new wave album, a reggae album, a dance album, a punk album, and a rap album. Rock-solid songwriting and Debbi… |
