14 year old business permit?
This summer I plan to sell sea glass art/jewelry, but when I gave the idea to my mom, she said that I would probably need some type of permit. I wasn’t sure if I was old enough for a permit or not though. I’m selling in Newport, Rhode Island. However, I don’t live there. I’m going for the month of July. But I have been going every July since I was born, so… help? Please ha ha
If you are laughing about it, dont expect many people to take you seriously.
Your mother is most likely correct. It does not matter if you are just visiting. many towns require business licenses or soliciting permits to sell goods either in a shop setting, or open market, or door-to-door ( or something similar). You will, in all likelihood have to have a FEIN ( Federal Employer Identification Number) and Sales Tax number as well, because the goods you are selling are TAXABLE on a federal, state (income) and local (sales tax) level.
These are legal entities that require someone over 18 to obtain. 14 yr old minors are legally too young to enter into contracts on their own, and an adult parent or guardian must also be involved.
A check of local ordinances would also be apropriate…..
