There are a number of methods to mix oil pastels. You might want to find some advice on the wetcanvas website, because there is a specific oil pastel forum, so maybe you could find advice from other oil pastel artists. I don’t work with oil pastels much if at all, but I use soft pastels. Wetcanvas is an online artists’ community with currently more than 99,000 worldwide members. Basic membership is completely free, and it is really one of the best sites I know of. Hope this helps.
