is it ok to cut the automatic transmission oil cooler steel line & repair with a piece of hose & hose clamps?
1988 mercury sable in very good shape.i noticed a slight bit of red fluid at the crimped connection where the steel line from the tranmission is connected to a hose. to fix, i would have to buy a complelete new oil cooler from the dealer. i would like to instead use a tubing cutter and cut the steel line behind the crimp, then do the same where the hose ends & joins to the other end of the steel line. i will use 360 degree clamps. is this an acceptable fix? must i flare the ends of the steel lines to give the hose something to grab on?
It is ok to do a repair on your tranny cooler line like you say. The cooler has little resistance in it to the flow so there is little if any preasure present, I have done repairs like this many times.
