Flat surfaces for a mosaic ?
i have to do a mosaic piece for my art class and i cant think of any materials that have even surfaces because i want to use something other than glass or tiles.
i know i can use coins; cereal wont work because the grout would make it all soggy.
any other ideas ???? please help ! thanks !
If you live in a place with big temperature differences don’t use coins or things that expand at a different rate from your base. If you are keeping it inside all the time you will probably be okay. I’d go to a Good Will or Salvation Army and buy some cheap dishes or mirror (break them) and use that. You can use broken bottles too. If you keep the temperature regular, you could use buttons and broken plastic, toys (plastic bugs or soldiers are great), beads, (I glued plastic pearls all over my car’s bumper. I used silicon adhesive for this so that the temperature changes wouldn’t be a problem.)
Oh, and mosaics don’t need to be flat. I’ve seen beautiful rounded benches and free form fences done in mosaic. If your “tiles aren’t flat, though you will need a really good adhesive. Check out this mosaic:
