Cheap Ways To Improve Kitchen Cabinetry
If you’re looking into new cabinets for your kitchen, you might not have given a lot of thought to the hardware you’ll choose. For the most part, you want a beautiful kitchen with cool, fresh new finishes that make the current kitchen’s drabness a thing of the past. You should actually carefully consider your hardware choices, as they can make cabinets look brilliant or lackluster, and the quality of hardware can determine the life of your cabinets.
There are almost unlimited choices for hardware for kitchen cabinets. Your options number in the millions for cabinet handles, knobs, and pulls. There are quite a few different drawer slides, catches, and latches, too. Many are stainless steel or crafted from brass.
Though there are thousands of possible styles, there are thousands more finishes available. It’s possible to powder coat any color or finish. Of course, youll also have to decide what shape you wish these to take. Just about any shape is available and they are no longer limited to hexagons, rectangles, squares or round shapes!
You will also find that there are so many sizes available, that you may have to be careful if you are simply refinishing your cabinetry. You’ll need to be careful to measure the holes that the hardware will go into to ensure a good fit.
Materials for pulls vary, as do finishes, and you can even find some satin nickel pulls. Most are made of die cast, nickel-plated zinc. Laquer can be applied after sanding the metal for a nice brushed look, and the metal will hold up nicely over the years. Antique pewter pulls and knobs are a beautiful emphasis to give kitchen cabinetry, and some of them even feature an oil-rubbed bronze highlight.
By using a copper or bronze finish on die cast metal, you can inexpensively get the look and feel of much more expensive copper hinges! Hardware can also incorporate other materials. This includes glass, ceramics, and other materials. Getting back to the copper hinges, you may choose to use actual copper hinges and other hardware.
Some can be made from oak, ceramic material, or high quality plastic. You might replace your cabinet hardware with crafted imagery, which can make the pulls and handles look like plants, seashells, and more. There are hundreds of sculpted image designs and an endless amount of variations available. Others create an interesting effect with an aged, often-used look that can appear almost antiqued. Enthusiasts of a modern aesthetic may choose hardware that uses incorporated granite.
You might choose cabinet hardware that needs to be pushed in order to open. In that case you may wish to have highly decorative push plates instead of pulls and handles.
