Glue to permanently attach metal to glass? Want to glue flat metal piece to glass cabochon to make necklace!?
I have several gorgeous, somewhat expensive, opaque glass cabochons which I would like to make into necklaces… I’m thinking the easiest way (since I don’t know how to solder) is to glue a metal finding to the back of the cabochon, and then attach the beads from there to make the necklace.
I guess I actually have three questions:
1 – What type of glue would be best to permanently adhere metal to the glass cab?
2 – The piece I’d like to attach is like a small flat piece of metal with a jump ring protruding from one edge… that’s the best way I can describe it. Where could I purchase such an item? Online?
3 – Is this really the best way or is there another I’m not thinking of?

Other than soldering, I think gluing probably is the best idea.
I’d use E-6000 glue, myself. I use that stuff for EVERYTHING, up to and including gluing toys to my dashboard. 
Fire Mountain Gems (www.firemountaingems.com) has the findings you’re talking about, I believe. Paging through the catalog, I just found something called “cabochon cinch mount settings.” It says, “Set cabochons in these cinch mounts to make wonderful pendants and display stones to their fullest potential. Simply settle the cinch mount around the widest part of the stone, then cinch the neck of the mounting with round nose pliers.”
They also carry “Rope-edged cabochon pendants with brass base,” which are similar to what you’re thinking off, but without a back, and “Sterling Silver Bezel Cups”, which are basically different shapes of metal to adhere cabochons to. They don’t have holes for making pendants, though.
I’d say, just go to the website and type “Cabochon mounting” into the search engine. Right now they have a shipping sale on, too.
