What’s the best way to remove the glass of the entertainment ctr door?
It’s a decently large door/glass and we always have to prop open the door when the electronics are turned on. Dumb design. So I thought, keep the door but remove the glass of one door. What would be the way to remove the beautiful beveled glass of it’s wood ‘frame’?
The answer depends on how it was made. In some modern furniture, the glass is held in the frame with little plastic or metal clips that are screwed to the frame. In that case, just have someone hold the glass while you loosen the clips and move them out of the way.
Sometimes the glass is held in with adhesive of some sort. In this case the easiest thing would probably be to remove the whole frame, along with the hinges. Save the screws for re-installation.
If you really want to get the glass out, but retain the door, try carefully slicing the advesive with a razor knife. A blow dryer, used to warm the adhesive sometimes helps. If you can loosen one corner, then work out in both directions, this sometimes works. Go slowly, be gentle. But be warned, this is very likely to break the glass. Be careful not to overheat the glass or the frame.
Whatever you do, be very careful working with glass, wear gloves and a long-sleeved heavy shirt or jacket, store the glass on something soft, store it vertically.
