I’m totally confused on this algebra!?
How do I do these problems?
It says use the foil pattern to find the product.
If I could get step by step directions that would be great.
Here are the problems:
(9x-5)(7x-12)
(x+4)(x-4)
(4x+5)^2
(9-4x)(9+4x)
1st problem
(9x-5)(7x-12)
Basically you have to multiply 9x by 7x and -12 and then multiply -5 by 7x and -12 so you end up with
63x^2-108x -35x+60
combine like terms
answer = 63x^2- 143x+ 60

2nd question
(x+4) (x-4)
I love these problems cuz they’re so easy
multiply x by x and -4 then multiply 4 by x and -4
you end up with
x^2 -4x+4x-16
simplify and you get x^2-16 because the 4x and the -4x cancel out

3rd question
(4x+5)^2 or (4x+5)(4x+5)
multiply 4x by 4x and 5 then multiply 5 by 4x and 5 to get
16x^2+20x+20x+25
simplify and get
16x^2+40x+25
__________________________________________________________
4th question
(9-4x)(9+4x)
multiply 9 by 9 and 4x then multiply -4x by 9 and 4x to get
81+36x-36x-16x^2
simplify (note how the 36x and the -36x cancel out)
81-16x^2
or
-16x^2+81 they’re both the same
