Faceted Beads – for Necklaces and More
A beautiful necklace made up of green and purple glass faceted beads, strategically placed in the window of a local jewellery shop is the source of inspiration for this article. Faceted beads are quite frequently used in jewellery, especially in making necklaces and lavaliere. They are often used as the centre pieces and also used to make a pattern or a design in the necklace. The best thing about faceted beads is that since they are faceted, they reflect light thereby adding shine and colour to a piece of jewellery.
Faceted beads are beads that have sharp cut edges. They are not completely spherical and have many evenly distributed edges all around the bead that are of equal sizes. The facets in the glass beads are cut with a diamond edged blade in order to make the facets perfect and the edges sharp. Some of the beads are then coloured with special Aurora Borealis coating that gives it a colourful and shiny glaze. This also makes the faceted beads look multi-dimensional.
Some of the faceted glass beads are coated with a mirror finish on the back. This provides the beads a mirror-like characteristic which provides it an extremely reflective surface on the other side. This makes the beads quite attractive and attention catching as they would dazzle when they come in contact with light.
