My dog bit and licked off a little hole of her skin on her butt, is she allergic to something?
My dog bit and licked off a little layer of her skin on her butt, and you can see the tissue that was supposed to be covered by her now missing skin. The hole is pretty small but I don’t know why she bit it off in the first place. She also licked the skin around the hole, and I’m guessing it took her a while because I found it after I came back from work. If anyone knows why she bit a hole in her butt please let me know.
First does she have any fleas? Its spring time and the fleas are everywhere. If that is not her problem then she may have an allergy to something. What she is doing is biting herself because she is itchy and causing herself what is called a hot spot. These hot spots can become infected overnight and smell just awful. If your vet is closed already then get her in tomorrow to see him or her. She will need to get the area cleaned and maybe shaved a bit. The vet will give you meds to keep it clean and an antibiotics to help it heal properly.
